Meet the CCIH Core Instructors

Connie Troska
Coordinator – Coalition for Continuous Improvement In Healthcare
Lean Healthcare Specialist – Northland Community And Technical College
Connie Troska provides experience in communication, marketing, public relations, Lean training, emergency pre-hospital care,
first aid training, and crisis management. Connie graduated from Bemidji State University with a degree in Communications and
Public Relations and received her certifications in Lean Healthcare from MIT and Belmont University. She has spent several
years working with organization on customer relations.
With a passion for pre-hospital emergency care, Connie has been an EMT since 1986 and serves with an ambulance service. Her interest in Lean Healthcare came from all the emergency rooms she has visited throughout the years.
In November 2008, Connie was named the Coordinator for the Coalition for Continuous Improvement in Healthcare (CCIH), managing everything from marketing, member services, and the overall operation of the CCIH. Connie trains and implements Lean Healthcare in hospitals, clinics and long term care facilities.

Ronald Flannigan
Mobile SimLab L1 Coordinator – Ridgewater College
Ron Flannigan trains professionals at health care facilities and nursing programs with simulation for
critical cardiac, neonate and OB team leadership programs.
Ron received a CCNREMT-P and professional certifications in ACLS-1, PALS-1, ACLS-EP-1 and CALS.

Jamie Groth
Business Solutions Coordinator – Winona State University
Jamie Groth received his certification in Lean Healthcare from the University of Michigan College of Engineering and has been
working with a team to apply Lean thinking and tools to processes in higher education.
Jamie also is a certified facilitator for over 60 modules of the Development Dimensions International (DDI) Learning System.

Dr. Daniel Rand
Lean Six Sigma Instructor/Developer – Winona State University
Dan Rand has a PhD from the University of Minnesota in industrial engineering. He is certified in Lean for Healthcare from the
University of Michigan, is a Fellow of the American Society for Quality and is a Certified Quality Engineer. Dr. Rand’s recent
work in Lean for Healthcare included participation in improvement projects at Olmsted Medical Center and Madonna Living
Communities in Rochester, MN.
Dr. Rand specializes in these offerings from Healthcare Solutions, in the area of Lean Six Sigma:
- Organizational quality assessment
- Prioritizing process improvement opportunities
- Leading projects that improve healthcare processes to the benefit of the patient and the organization

Jeremy Schwartz – Alexandria Technical College
Lean Healthcare - Process Improvement Specialist
Jeremy Schwartz has more than 10 years of combined manufacturing and healthcare related Lean Healthcare and Six Sigma
experiences that include training and applying Lean and Six Sigma in small rural healthcare organizations as well as
multiple facility metropolitan healthcare organizations. His recent projects include Johnson Memorial Health System,
St. Mary's Duluth Clinic, Wheaton Community Hospital, Traverse Care Center and Lakewood Health System.
Jeremy has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology from Bemidji State University. He also holds an American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Six Sigma Black Belt and is an ASQ senior member.
